Our Emergency Tree Services
It never pays to underestimate the forces of Mother Nature, and even trees that look strong can be vulnerable to the high winds and rain that can accompany a storm at any time of year. Sometimes this will cause trees to fall, but sometimes it may tear off branches that are left hanging and will eventually fall or die, possibly compromising the structure and stability of the tree so that it may fall later without warning.
It's in circumstances like these that it may be prudent to have some limbs of the tree removed or the entire tree felled as quickly as possible to avoid damage to your family or your home. In some cases, where a storm or other severe weather conditions are forecast, it may make sense to remove limbs or trees that seem weak or likely to fall if they would cause damage. Lake Forest has a team of expert arborists on hand to advise on these situations. Whether the tree has fallen or is about to fall, a pre-storm inspection can prevent significant damage and cost to your family, home and valuables by preparing your trees for severe weather conditions. We always have equipment and crews on standby to be able to come to you at a moment's notice to advise or take emergency action to ensure that your family and your property remains safe in all weather conditions. |
Our Emergency Tree Services also include:
Tree Bracing and Cabling: Providing additional support to tree trunks and vulnerable limbs of trees in anticipation of the stress of adverse weather conditions like high winds and rain, and occasionally ice or snow, can greatly reduce the risk of limb loss or fall and can prolong the life of a tree for many years. Our arborists will look out for any trees that may be leaning or where the soil is heaving up at the roots of the tree, or for areas of the canopy that are sparse and surrounded by dead tree limbs. Also, there can be weakness where there are cracks or cavities in the wood. These sometimes take experienced eyes to spot. We generally brace and support with steel flexible cables that will remain in place and preserve the tree or limb for many years.
Lightning Protection: Just as winds and rain can be unpredictable, lightning strikes on trees can seemingly come out of the blue and cause serious damage to large trees. Trees can be protected from the risk of a lightning strike by installing a copper cable as high in the tree as possible, and running it down the trunk to the soil then to a grounding rod located well away from the tree. This system has been used since the 1800s, and is very effective if properly installed. Installation of these systems is a demanding job as it is very important to install the cable as high as possible in the tree, but still have adequate limb support so that the cable does not inhibit the growth or natural movement of the tree. These tree lightning protection systems are very durable and can be expected to last 20 - 30 years or more. The specimen trees in some historic houses, such as Jefferson's home at Monticello, are protected by systems that have been in place for about a century!
